| Why
T5 H0 Fixtures are Better:
1. T5HO lamps compared to T8 lamps are 80% brighter using
standard ballasts. Combining this and the smaller size of
the T5, a 4-lamp T5 replaces a 6 lamp (overdriven) T8 high
bay fixture.
2. We only use T5 HO programmed start ballasts. These are specially
designed to start and stop a lamp 50,000 to 100,000+ times
before the lamp burns out. With this you can maximize the
fixture savings using occupancy sensors and not affect lamp
life. T8 high bay fixtures typically use overdriving T8 instant
start ballasts to equal the light output of the T5 HO. With
T8 ballasts you get up to 12,000 starts per lamp life. This
is OK if you keep the lights on most of the time, but after
8-10 lamp turn ons per day you will start getting a shorter
lamp life.
3. Linear fluorescent fixtures are more efficient than round
Metal Halide
or High Pressure Sodium fixtures, which typically have fixture
efficiencies in the mid 60's range. Our T5 HO fixtures are
around 95% efficient.
4. T5 HO lamps have a life of 30,000 hours. Metal Halide lamps
have a rated life of 20,000 hours; High Pressure Sodium lamps
have a life of 24,000 hours.
5. T5 HO lamps have 5-9% lamp depreciation throughout their
life. HID lamps can lose up to 65% of their light output over
their lifespan.
6. The fluorescent fixtures we replace, T12 HO and T12 VHO,
have an even poorer lamp life and lumen depreciation than
HIDs.
Utility Incentives & Tax Credits
Make Energy Wise Lighting T5HO Fixtures Even More Attractive:
Many utility companies offer incentives for their customers
to save energy. There are utility incentives throughout the
NE in Maine, VT, NH, MA, CT, NY, NJ; in the NW in OR, WA,
CA, ID; in CO, UT, WI and scattered around the country in
some other areas. We can find out which incentives are available
in your area and help you with the paperwork necessary to qualify for
them.
